Arranging in the Oriental Manner |
| Most rose shows
hosted by societies affiliated with the American Rose Society include
competitions in flower arrangements done in the oriental manner.
A special oriental-manner arrangement workshop was held after the ARS
Fall Conference in November 2009 to educate ARS Arrangement Judges and
other ARS members in Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower
arranging. This floral art form has been practiced for over 600
years and is traditionally part of an exhibition or display rather than
floral competition. Hundreds of different Ikebana schools have
developed over the years. Each of these schools has its own
emphasis and traditional forms. Professors and instructors from
four different schools of Ikebana gave instruction and did
demonstrations depicting typical styles of each of their schools. |
