Yes, for the first time in many years we are canceling our Annual Rose Show due to truly miserable weather. Day time temperatures have been 20-25 degrees colder than average. As of May 27th, It was still snowing in part of our area. The night temperatures have been sinking to below freezing and killing off tomatoes, impatiens, marigolds and other plants many of us so foolishly planted outdoors. These conditions have resulted in barely any buds that might open in time for our show. The Show Chair, Rebecca Geishaker-Chlebus, and the Show Committee is currently looking at a possible posponement or participating in the flower show at the annual Nevada State Fair in late August.
The Reno Rose Society still plans on hosting an ARS Consulting Rosarian School on August 14, 2010. Watch here for more details.
The Reno Rose Society holds plant sales and raffles to raise funds for purchase of new roses and maintanence of the Reno Municipal Rose Garden. The annual tomato sale is now over. We raised over $1000 for the garden.
If you have time to volunteer in the Reno Municipal Rose Garden, please contact Dianne (334-2270) to set up a time and get instructions on what needs to be done. If you can help with the plant sales and other events, please contact Ann Marie at 746-1140.
