Next Meeting:

February 27, 2010 "Climate & Soils of our Region"

Our February program sets the stage for good rose growing to teach you how to work with our native soils and local climate conditions. Find out how you can modify your setting to grow healthier plants. Our speakers are Bill Carlos, who is the horticulturist for Rancho San Rafael and the May Arboretum, and Brandon Wholey, who is a meteorologist for Channel 4 News. Bill Carlos will guide you through modifying your soil to grow healthier plants. Did you know that the official weather station for our area is at the Reno Airport? Brandon Wholey will discuss how your location may be drastically different than the “official†location. You will also learn how to recognize the best spots in your yard for roses and how you might change your watering habits. The program will begin at 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 27th, at the Garden Shop Nursery on Mayberry at West McCarren. There will be a signup sheet for those wishing to help with our annual public pruning demonstration scheduled for Saturday March 27th. On hand to answer your other gardening questions will be ARS Consulting Rosarians and experts who are members of our local Society. This meeting will be in the back building at the Garden Shop Nursery's new location on the southwest corner of Mayberry and West McCarren. If you have any questions, please call Ann Marie at 746-1140.
